Defrogger is 98% distilled water and uses the cleanest plant-derived defog agent available. Discover the difference between our pure formula and the harsh chemical mixtures competitors are still calling "Reef Safe."

The Ecological Problem with Chemical Defoggers like Stream2Sea, Jaws, Gear Aid and PSI 500

1. The Threat of Isopropanol (Alcohol) Most of these products contain Isopropanol (CAS 67-63-0), which is classified as a hazardous chemical. When released into waterways, alcohol is toxic to aquatic organisms. A truly reef-safe product would never include a known aquatic toxin.

2. Unnecessary Chemical Complexity. Many use multiple synthetic surfactants, solvents, and auxiliary agents. For example, one company includes petrochemical agents like C9-11 Alcohol Ethoxylate and Propylene Glycol Butyl Ether. Most use a blend of five or more complex detergents have a hazard statement of H400: Very toxic to aquatic life. This complexity creates an immense chemical load on natural ecosystems, forcing marine bacteria to break down a long list of foreign, synthetic compounds.

3. The Hidden Cost of Siloxanes, and Silicones, which are highly persistent materials. They do not readily break down in the environment and can accumulate, posing a long-term, non-biodegradable pollution risk to marine life.
Defrogger's Simple Solution: Purity with only two ingredients—98% distilled water and a single, gentle, plant-derived surfactant.

They are a Chemical Cocktail!

The DeFrogger Purity Difference:

Two Pure Ingredients: Our formula uses a single, plant-derived active ingredient (from fruit and coconuts) that works powerfully and rinses clean without a trace.

  • Zero Eye Irritation: Our Alcohol-Free formula means no burning, stinging, or redness if water enters your mask.
  • Gear Protection: Will not dry out, degrade, or weaken silicone mask skirts, preserving the life and seal of your expensive gear.

🚫 Stop Spitting: Health, Gear, and the Ocean Deserve Better

The old habit of using spit is not a harmless tradition. Choose DeFrogger instead of risking:

  • Eye Health Risks: Saliva introduces bacteria and germs into your mask, risking painful eye infections.
  • Mask Damage: Enzymes in spit can contribute to the deterioration of delicate lens coatings, leading to a permanently hazy view.
  • Environmental Impact: The cumulative introduction of human bacteria into sensitive ecosystems like coral reefs is a legitimate concern.

Instructor Developed

Engineered by Experts. Inspired by the Ocean.

As a 30-year commercial diver and PADI/SSI Master Instructor, I've spent thousands of hours underwater. I know firsthand that the old trick of "spit-and-rinse" just doesn't cut it. That frustration—and a deep commitment to preserving the marine world—is what drove my Divemaster wife, Cindy, and me to create Defrogger.

We engineered a solution for divers who demand peak performance without harming the delicate reefs we explore.

Why Pro Divers Choose Defrogger:
Lasting Clarity: Creates an invisible, durable anti-fog barrier that lasts the entire dive. See your students or your underwater work clearly.
Non-Toxic: Gentle on your eyes and the environment.
Easy to Use: Simple spray-on application means more time diving, less time preparing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Makes Our Alcohol-Free, Reef-Safe Defogger Different?

Stop wasting dives fighting a foggy mask and start focusing on the incredible underwater world. Our defogger delivers crystal-clear vision while protecting the environment you love to explore.

The Power of Plant-Derived Purity

What sets us apart is what we put in—and what we leave out. Unlike standard formulas that rely on harsh, synthetic chemicals, our solution is a revolutionary blend that is 98% pure distilled water.

  • Eco-Conscious Formula: This plant-derived ingredient is naturally highly biodegradable, breaking down quickly and cleanly in the water.
  • Zero Harmful Chemicals: Our formula is completely free of marine-life-killing alcohol, as well as the coral-damaging UV filters Oxybenzone and Octinoxate—known stressors to delicate reef ecosystems.

Clear Vision, No Stinging

Our mission is to give you a long-lasting, invisible anti-fog barrier without compromise. The presence of alcohol in other defoggers is a major drawback, as it has been shown to be harmful to aquatic life and can be incredibly irritating to a diver's sensitive eyes. With our alcohol-free formula, you get:

  • Superior Performance: A specialized, lab-tested solution that lasts, ensuring you enjoy your entire dive without interruption.
  • Complete Comfort: A gentle, non-irritating formula that won't sting your eyes or dry out your mask's silicone, allowing you to stay focused on the dive.

Upgrade your gear to the #1 choice for environmentally conscious divers and experience the difference that clear vision and a clear conscience can make.

Can I use Reef Safe Defogger on any type of diving mask?

Here's why our reef-safe formula excels, regardless of scuba lens type, Tempered, Plastic and Trivex:

  • Compatibility: Our defogger works by creating a thin, hydrophobic (water-repelling) film on the lens surface. This film is compatible with all standard scuba mask lens materials.

  • Performance: Regardless of lens type, our defogger effectively creates a clear barrier against fogging, enhancing your underwater visibility.

How long does one application last?

Our defog formula is long-lasting! Divers testing our product in demanding conditions report excellent performance, with minimal fogging even during exertion by our commercial defog users.

A pool session will need more applications, and diving in an ocean or lake it might go several dives without needing another application. If you rinse out all the defog by dragging it through the water will need another application. The same applies to all defogs, if it's all rinsed out, it will need another application.

While a single application won't last an entire lifetime underwater, it provides a significant amount of fog-free diving time for most users. Factors like water temperature and breathing intensity can affect how long it lasts, so some divers may reapply between dive as standard protocol.

For best results, follow the manufacturer's instructions on application and reapplication frequency.

Is Reef Safe Defogger suitable for sensitive skin?

Reef Safe Defogger is safe for skin and eyes.

Can I use the defogger in both warm and cold water conditions?

  • Temperature Independence: Our formula creates a micro-thin, hydrophobic (water-repelling) film on the lens surface. This film's effectiveness is not significantly impacted by water temperature variations .
  • Real-world Testing: Divers frequently encounter a wide range of water temperatures throughout the globe. Reports from professional divers testing our product in various conditions confirm its effectiveness

Therefore, you can expect Reef Safe Defogger to perform well regardless of water temperature, keeping your vision clear for enjoyable dives.

What is the shelf life of Reef Safe Defogger?

  • Unopened: Shelf life is typically around 3 years assumption based on
  • Opened: Expect effectiveness for up to 2 years, depending on storage conditions.

For best results, always store your defogger in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight and cold temperatures under 40 degrees.

How should I apply Reef Safe Defogger for the best results?

Spray and keep it away from the water. The key is applying and not washing it out. Apply while getting ready, then put your mask around your neck or backward on your head. Then dip once and make sure you didn't wash it all out.

Standard practice is spraying between dives and dipping once.
